EQUAL OPPORTUNITY CELL (EOC)

Everyone is born equally capable but lacks equal opportunity – Pierre Omidyar

India the land known for its rich cultural heritage and values is diverse in its physical, regional, racial and linguistic boundaries, but it echoes the feeling of unity in diversity. Though the constitution ensures the equality of opportunity to all its citizens, owing to the historical underpinnings of the Indian social structure, the marginalized groups (SC, ST, OBC, women and physically challenged individuals) are provided with restricted and limited access to the material, cultural and educational resources. Initiation of equal opportunity cell (EOC) across the institution of higher learning is a significant step of UGC towards addressing the problems and concerns representing marginalized groups of the society including SC, ST, OBC, women, minorities and differently-abled (DA) persons. The major objectives for the establishment of EOC is to ensure effective implementation of policies and programs designed by the UGC for the welfare of the students of marginalized sections who are pursuing higher studies. To guarantee equity and equivalent chance to the different strata, in the campus, and to realize the goal of social inclusion, the Equal Opportunity Cell is established in the campus under the guidelines of UGC. The cell is established under the mandate of the UGC determining the need of a functionary inside the campus. EOC is set up to encourage the marginalized in the society especially the ones at the campus.
