Heritage Walk & Museums Excursion to Bhopal

The Department of Commerce, The Bhopal School of Social Sciences (BSSS) organised a Heritage Walk & Museums Excursion to Bhopal on 22 August 2026, under the guidance of Dr. Sushma S. Tirkey and Dr. Amrita Sahu. Beginning at 6:30 a.m., the educational excursion offered students an enriching opportunity to explore the city’s historical landmarks, architectural treasures, cultural traditions and living heritage. The tour was guided by Mrs. Darshit Saxena from Tripvacanza and Mr. Tebraj Khan, a local tourist guide of Bhopal.

As part of the heritage walk, students visited several significant landmarks, including Rani Kamlapati Palace & Park, Lower Lake, Faiz Mohammad Dargah, Chameli Wali Dargah, Hammam-e-Qadimi, Burj Kila Kohna, Taj-ul-Masajid and Gauhar Mahal. The walk provided students with an opportunity to discover the architectural grandeur, historical narratives and cultural diversity that shape Bhopal’s unique heritage identity.

At the State Museum, Bhopal, escorted by Mrs. Rashi Jain , Assistant Manager Operations Aankhon Dekha Centre Bhopal, BSSSites  students for the first time experienced a blend of heritage, creativity and technology. The Sand Room encouraged hands-on creativity through interactive sand art, while 3D Illusion Art offered engaging opportunities for perspective-based photography. The Dark Room captivated students with fluorescent heritage displays and storytelling by Ms. Shakshi. A special attraction was “Aankhon Dekha,” an engaging virtual reality experience that transported students into an extraordinary world where imagination comes alive and experiences become immersive. Documentaries further enhanced their understanding of India’s diverse cultural and historical heritage.

The visit to the Tribal Museum, Bhopal, offered students an immersive insight into the rich cultural heritage and traditional lifestyles of Madhya Pradesh’s tribal communities. Life-size village settings, traditional dwellings, indigenous art and crafts, costumes, jewellery, musical instruments, rituals and festivals brought tribal traditions to life. The museum beautifully demonstrates the creativity, cultural identity, community values and sustainable way of living of indigenous communities.

The Heritage Walk & Museums Excursion was an enriching blend of education, exploration and experiential learning. It enabled students to connect classroom concepts with real-world heritage experiences while developing a deeper appreciation of Bhopal’s history, architecture, culture and tourism potential. The excursion was informative, engaging and memorable, reinforcing the importance of heritage conservation, responsible tourism and experiential education.
