The Bhopal School of Sciences held an engaging session titled "Happiness in Everyday Lives" at the Main Seminar Hall. Organized by the Department of Psychology in collaboration with the Rekhi Foundation for Happiness, the event was attended by both students and staff members of the college.
The session began with an introduction by Ms. Avisha Peters, Assistant Professor of Psychology, setting the tone for the discussions on happiness. Following this, the college paid a special tribute to Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan to commemorate Teacher’s Day. Floral tributes were presented before his portrait, and the ceremonial lighting of the lamp took place, symbolizing the light of wisdom he brought to education. Principal Dr. Fr. John P.J. addressed the gathering, reflecting on Dr. Radhakrishnan’s legacy and the pivotal role of teachers in shaping lives.
Dr. Vinay Mishra introduced the keynote speaker, Prof. Manas K Mandal, a renowned Cognitive Neuropsychologist, former Director General of DRDO, and currently Professor Emeritus at IIT Kharagpur. In his address, Prof. Mandal explored the philosophy and science of happiness, weaving together empirical research and practical insights. He emphasized the significance of balancing the body and mind to achieve true happiness, explaining how lifestyle factors, such as junk food consumption, can disrupt gut health and serotonin production, thereby influencing emotional well-being. He also clarified the distinction between momentary pleasure and deep, meaningful happiness, offering strategies to cultivate lasting joy.
The event concluded on a high note, with participants leaving inspired by the practical takeaways on how to foster happiness in their everyday lives. The session was a perfect blend of honoring Teacher’s Day and enriching the participants’ understanding of happiness, making it a memorable occasion for all involved.
