From Ideas to Expression: Creative Writing Workshop in BSSS
The Department of English, in collaboration with the BSSS Literary Society, organised a Creative Writing Workshop on October 7, 2026, at The Bhopal School of Social Sciences (BSSS). The workshop provided students with an opportunity to develop their creative expression through practical exercises, individual prompts, and collaborative activities. Led by Ms. Ekta Khullar, a creative writer and English communication professional, the session was attended by Dr. Supriya Mandloi, Head of the Department of English, BSSS; Sr. Rohini Jadhav, Management Coordinator, BSSS; esteemed faculty members of the English Department; and members of the BSSS Literary Society. During the workshop, Ms. Khullar highlighted the role of creative writing in nurturing imagination, self-expression, and communication skills. She also emphasised the value of experiential learning in fostering creativity, confidence, and effective expression among students. The workshop focused on the principle of “Show, Don’t Tell,” encouraging students to communicate emotions, experiences, and ideas through vivid descriptions. Participants responded to individual writing prompts and worked in groups of five to exchange ideas and experiment with different approaches to creative expression. The event received 110 registrations from students across various departments and generated enthusiastic participation in discussions, writing exercises, and group activities. Students also requested that similar creative writing and literary sessions be organised in the future. Participants were felicitated with e-certificates in recognition of their involvement. The session concluded with a discussion on opportunities in creative writing beyond academics, including its potential as a skill and career path. Mr. Siddharth Pisda delivered the vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to the resource person and dignitaries.
