The Research Cell of The Bhopal School of Social Sciences (BSSS) organised an academic session on “Literature Review” on 15 September 2026 with the objective of strengthening participants’ understanding and practical skills in undertaking effective literature reviews as an essential component of academic and research work.

The session was facilitated by Prof. Sheena Thomas, Professor, Department of Education, BSSS, who provided valuable insights into literature review, research methodology, scholarly writing, critical analysis, and the synthesis of existing literature. She also guided participants on identifying research gaps and establishing meaningful connections between previous research and proposed studies.

Conducted in hybrid mode, the session witnessed the participation of 31 learners and researchers, with 15 participants attending in person and 16 joining online. Participants represented diverse academic institutions, including The Bhopal School of Social Sciences, Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya, Indore, Sardar Patel University, Jagadguru Rambhadracharya Divyang State University, Chitrakoot, Sam University, Bhopal, Barkatullah University, Bhopal, and the National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Sciences (NIMHANS), Bengaluru.

During the interactive session, participants explored various aspects of conducting a systematic literature review, including identifying relevant scholarly sources, understanding and organising existing research, critically analysing and synthesising literature, identifying research gaps, and developing a coherent and academically rigorous review. The session also emphasised the importance of scholarly writing and appropriate referencing practices.

The participation of researchers and learners from different institutions and academic backgrounds facilitated meaningful inter-institutional and interdisciplinary academic exchange. Participants also had the opportunity to reflect on their own research work and develop a more structured approach to reviewing academic literature.

The session was coordinated by Dr. Richi Simon, whose efforts contributed to the planning and smooth conduct of the programme. Ms. Amrita Shree served as the emcee and facilitated the proceedings.

The session was also streamed live on YouTube, enabling wider participation beyond the physical venue.

The programme reflected the Research Cell’s continued efforts towards fostering a strong research culture, scholarly inquiry, interdisciplinary learning, and research capacity building among students, faculty members, researchers, and emerging scholars at BSSS.
